About Luisito Quintero:
Born in the bustling neighborhood of San Agustin, Caracas, Venezuela, Luis Ernesto Quintero Vegas, better known as Luisito Quintero, is a percussion prodigy hailing from a notable family of musicians. Guided by his accomplished percussionist father, Luis Quintero Sr., he started mastering the timbales from an early age. At just eight years old, he was performing with "The New Generation", a group inspired by his father and uncles, Carlos "Nene", Ricardo, and Jesus "Chu" Quintero. By twelve, he joined one of the era's top bands, "El Trabuco Venezolano", and a year later was playing alongside the famed salsa singer, Oscar D’León.
In 1992, Luisito moved to New York City, swiftly becoming a mainstay in its Latin music and Jazz scenes, recognized as a top percussionist and often serving as musical director. Unafraid to innovate, he integrates a broad spectrum of percussion instruments, such as timbales, congas, bongos, drum sets, and West African djembe and dundun, into his performances.
With participation in over 700 music productions across genres, Luisito boasts over 60 Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. His latest accolades were received in 2019 with Chick Corea & The Spanish Heart Band for Best Latin Jazz Album, and in 2018 with Spanish Harlem Orchestra for Best Tropical Latin Album.
In August 2020, Quintero unveiled the second production of his Grammy-nominated band, co-founded with cousin and fellow percussionist Roberto Quintero, Quintero’s Salsa Project, titled "Tributo A La Dimensión Latina".
