About Michael Eckhrot:

Michael Eckroth is a distinguished pianist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger, specializing in jazz, Latin jazz, Cuban, Brazilian, and various American popular music styles. An acclaimed performer, Michael has shared stages worldwide with jazz icons such as John Scofield, Ron McClure, Eliot Zigmund, and Paul McCandless. Based in New York, he has performed at major venues like the Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls, Lincoln Center's summer stage, and Joe's Pub, as well as internationally recognized stages like the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Michael received a Grammy nomination for his contributions to the 2018 Cuban music album Orquesta Akokan, which was highly praised by NPR and France’s FIP. He holds a PhD from New York University and has served as a professor of music at Dartmouth College and currently at Florida International University (FIU).

With a career spanning over 15 years, Michael has engaged with diverse musical genres including jazz, R&B, pop, salsa, and more, performing alongside artists from Sheena Easton to John Scofield. As a recording artist, he boasts several solo albums and numerous collaborations, serving as a pianist, keyboardist, or musical director. He continues to record, both solo and collaboratively, for labels like Daptone and Truth Revolution Records. Raul DaGama of the Latin Jazz Network describes him as "a modern renaissance musician with insights into music that will surprise you."
