About Rebbeca Thomas:
Rebbeca, an acclaimed flamenco dancer, is the founder and performer of A Palo Seco, a flamenco company known for its innovative approach to the art form. Petite and charming, Tomas has captivated audiences and critics alike, earning praise as “awesomely fiery” (New York Times), “masterful” (Eva Yaa Asentawaa), and “a postcard image of the feminine Flamenco dancer” (Kansas City Metropolis). Her company, known for performances that include both premieres and traditional pieces, is celebrated for blending bare-bones percussion with modern twists, like casting women in the typically masculine farruca dance.
Tomas's journey in flamenco began with formal training in Granada, Spain, and furthered at Madrid's esteemed Flamenco Academy Amor de Dios. Before founding A Palo Seco Flamenco Company, she honed her skills with renowned groups such as Noche Flamenca and Flamenco Vivo. Her work, lauded as “a feast for the eyes and the ears” (Theatre Online), reflects a deep respect for flamenco's roots while infusing contemporary urban elements. Her contributions to flamenco in the U.S. have been supported by various prestigious organizations, including the LMCC, Jerome Foundation, and the Harkness Center for Dance. In 2013, she was recognized as a fellow in Choreography by the New York Foundation for the Arts, marking her as a prominent voice in modern flamenco.
About Ricardo Sanchez: - The Melody of Flamenco A gifted guitarist from Mexico, Ricardo embarked on his musical journey at the tender age of 6, transitioning to flamenco by 13. It was then that he found his voice in the strings, portraying raw emotions without uttering a word. Under the guidance of maestros like Adrián Juárez, Mauricio López, Josué Tacorente, Juan Campallo, and José Luis Medina, Ricardo honed his flamenco prowess. His strings have echoed across festivals in the Americas, collaborating with luminaries like Marjorie de Sousa, Juan Gabriel, and more. Beyond performance, Ricardo is passionate about imparting the depth and beauty of flamenco to the next generation.
About Alfonso Mogaburo Cid: - From Sevilla's Heartbeat to Global Stages Sevilla, the flamenco epicenter, is where Alfonso's tale began. He immersed himself in the traditions of the Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena club. From the USA and Latin America to Israel and Europe, Alfonso has showcased the soul of Sevilla. Notably, he toured Spain in 2018 with the Jazz/Flamenco sensation, the New York Bojaira Project.
