About Sak Tzevul:

This Band was founded by the three Martinez brothers, Damian Martinez, guitarist and composer, Enrique Martinez, drummer and arranger, and Paco Martinez, guitarist. They are natives of the municipal seat of the Tsotsil town of Zinacantán, Chiapas, and are the creators of the Bats'i-Rock concept, or the rock of indigenous peoples. Since their beginnings and the establishment of the Tsotsil rock musical group Sak Tzevul in 1996 in their native Zinacantán, they have been influenced by the popular music of the Marimba, which has been a part of the Martinez brothers' roots for three generations, as well as the music of traditional harp, guitar, and violin, and the drum and flute, which are characteristic of the cultural and historical heritage of the Mayan town of Zinacantán. They immerse us in the sounds of Tzotzil and other Mayan languages and Spanish that coexist in the highlands of Chiapas. They present their new Mexican rock that incorporates ancestral sounds into an acoustic and electrifying mix of melodies ranging from traditional to classic rock, with native inflections that evoke with their tones the tradition-modernity concept, characteristic of the multicultural towns of Mexico, up to the popular music of today.
