About Sharif Kales:
Hailing from the vibrant streets of New York, Sharif Kales emerges as a formidable trumpet and flugelhorn player, whose artistry is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of jazz legends like Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, and Freddie Hubbard. An alumnus of the esteemed New School Jazz program, Sharif's expertise primarily lies in jazz, yet his musical prowess spans a diverse array of genres, including funk, R&B, and Latin.
Throughout his career, Sharif has collaborated with a spectrum of illustrious artists and ensembles, such as Charli Persip, The Valery Ponomarev Art Blakey Big Band, The Ray Arbans Big Band, The Harlem Renaissance Big Band, as well as jazz luminaries Charles Tolliver, Buster Williams, Mulgrew Miller, Joe Chambers, and Wallace Roney.
Currently, Sharif is synthesizing his rich experiences by working alongside the legendary bassist John Benitez and engaging in a variety of freelance projects. As a bandleader, he steers his own group with vision and finesse.
In the throes of crafting his debut album, Sharif is dedicated to forging a new path in jazz. His group, the Sharif Kales Sextet, is renowned for their exhilarating fusion of modern hard bop, seamlessly interwoven with Latin, R&B, funk, hip hop, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Their performances are a vibrant tapestry of original compositions and contemporary jazz standards, showcasing Sharif's commitment to both innovation and tradition in the evolving narrative of jazz.
