Alex Conde is a vibrant and visionary jazz and flamenco pianist, composer and music educator living in San Francisco. He is a graduate in classical music from the Jose Iturbi Conservatory of Music and in jazz piano from el Liceu de Barcelona. Conde began his tenure in US after winning a scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. While pursuing this degree (2009) in jazz performance at Berklee, he received the Jazz Revelation Award.
Son of legendary Copla singer, Alejandro Conde, Alex is a self-taught composer. He started playing classical music at the age of 4 and continued his studies with Patricio Pizarro, Sergio Sapena and Wanda Walcewska at the Conservatorio Jose Iturbi de Valencia and later with Ed Bedner at Berklee College of Music. He has studied jazz with luminaries such as Chano Domínguez, George Garzone, Joe Lovano, Danilo Pérez, Dave Santoro, Maria Schneider, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding.
Since 2009, Alex has been a regular pianist on flamenco tours around the US, Latin America, and Canada. He has composed for flamenco companies like ASFB and Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco, a collaboration with whom earned him an Isadora Duncan “Izzie” nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Text (2011).
His orchestrations have been performed by the Orquesta de Camara de Miami with concertino Federico Britos, flamenco guitarist Jose Luis Rodríguez and conductor Omid Zoufonoun from Oakland Youth Orchestra. His arrangements of Franz Schubert have also been performed at the New York Symphony Space.
Since 2007, Alex has regularly performed in International Jazz Festivals along with artists such as Melissa Aldana, Vicente Amigo, Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon), Keita Ogawa, John Patitucci, Dave Samuels, Chucho Valdes and The Bad Plus.
