Flamenco is an art that is presented in two variants: music and dance. The dance is an essential of this art, perhaps it’s the most expressive and striking part for the public. Its effusiveness and each part of the body moves in a coordinated way: the feet, the legs, the hips, the waist, the arms , the hands, the fingers, the shoulders and the head. Flamenco is a very rich and complicated art. It is made up of more than a hundred flamenco styles, which are each of the styles of singing, that is, the different modalities that exist and that are grouped according to their origin, metric or if accompanied by dance or guitar, among other features.
Ricardo Osorio “El Niño”
In 2003, Ricardo Ososrio “El Niño’” began his studies in flamenco dance under the tutelage of dancer and choreographer Ricardo Rubio, complementing the discipline with contemporary dance and ballet classes in the Ballet Theater del Espacio. He further refined and perfected his craft in Spain with icons of Spanish dance such as Cristobal Reyes, ‘La Tati’, María Juncal, Merche Esmeralda, Rafael Campallo, Javier la Torre, Manuel Liñan, Marco Flores, and Alfonso Losa.
In 2005, he began his work as a teacher at Los Talleres Cultural Center and in the following year, he opened his own studio in Mexico City, Estudio Córdoba, where he currently teaches. In 2007, he premiered as a solo dancer and director in Mi Manera (“My Way”), followed by Tu Mirá (“Your Look”) (2008), Mi Casa Vieja (“My Old House”) (2009), Del Pensamiento (“The Way You Think”) (2010), La Fábrica de Razones (“The Factory of Reasons”) (2012) and his current production Santé [dicen que el vino es bueno para el corazón] [“they say that wine is good for the heart”].
“El Niño” has performed in prominent operas such as Carmen, Goya, and La Vida Breve (“The Short Life”) and has been featured in flamenco shows such as Llanto (“Crying”) and Acoplados, under the direction and choreography of renowned flamenco dancer Malagueño Paco Mora.
“El Niño” has danced in well-known theaters and forums in various cities and festivals in Mexico and abroad including the Palacio de Bellas Artes (“Fine Arts Palace”), Teatro Esperanza Iris (“Esperanza Iris Theater”), the Spanish Opera Season in Toronto and Waterloo, Canada, the International Flamenco Festival of Vancouver, the National Arts Center, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, Canada. He has also performed in various venues in Houston, New York, and different states of Mexico including Querétaro, Morelos, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Veracruz, Puebla, Jalisco, Baja California Norte, Tamaulipas and Hidalgo. https://ricardoosorio.com/
