Filtron M is a project by Swiss pianist, keyboarder and composer Manu Koch which serves as a platform for a multi-national group of musicians and consists of various units such as the Astoria Roots.
Manu Koch has been exposed to numerous genres and musical cultures by working and touring with some leading figures in contemporary music for nearly two decades. Filtron M draws from this extensive experience as a sideman, ranging from Afro-Pop star Angélique Kidjo to projects by Miles Davis bassist and Santana’s musical director Benny Rietveld, collaborating on numerous productions by renowned blues/soul artist Tomás Doncker or touring internationally with the New York Gypsy All-Stars.
Characteristic for the music of Filtron M is the emphasis on layered rhythms, grooves and bass lines which all Manu Koch’s compositions are built on. Each band member provides their singular, individual voice on their instrument and the result is a contemporary global sound thanks to the collaborative arrangements and musical freedom given to each performer.
